Expertise:

After qualifying as a solicitor, Stephen Gowdy worked in private practice and then for just over 2 years in the legal department of the Northern Bank Limited. In 1979 he returned to private practice joining his brother, Colin Gowdy and the late Tom King as a partner in King & Gowdy.

Stephen Gowdy has retained his links with the banking world. He has an extensive practice in all aspects of banking law and bank litigation. He regularly advises institutional banking clients, and lectures to students on this area of law.

Alongside that, he has had widespread experience in dealing with insolvency and advises trustees in bankruptcy, administrators, and liquidators. He has recently co-written a text book, ‘Individual Insolvency - the Practice and Procedure in Northern Ireland’, and is at present working with the same co-author on a companion text book on corporate insolvency.

He also values private client work, particularly the opportunity of assisting individuals in dealing with the legal problems which they encounter.

When not working, he enjoys playing golf and listening to or attending the opera.
